Master Bedroom Design

As you know from the million posts about our family room, I have had a hard time making decisions and deciding on a plan for the room. In the middle of working on mood boards for the family room and trying out different fabric combinations, I accidentally put together an inspiration board for our bedroom (or the start of one).

I'm usually drawn to darker, jewel toned colors. However, lately light and bright spaces have been catching my eye, and when I came across these pictures, I immediately started playing around with lighter/brighter colors:

Here is the start of a bedroom design I came up with after wanting a brighter space:

Family Room Update

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We sure did; we were able to spend time with great friends we have not seen in a while and try out new Austin places and even have a date night. Monday definitely came too soon.

Another thing we did this weekend was finalize the color scheme of our family room (this was worth celebrating) and order our sofa. Can you believe it? We finally have a sofa purchased, and as soon as it arrives in 10-12 weeks (ugh) I will be so happy to show you. This may seem a little strange to ~~my husband~~ some people, but I am on cloud nine now that we actually have a design plan, and I can start focusing on all the pretty pillows, rug, drapery, etc.

The sofa we chose is a Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. We did a lot of research and heard tons of good things about this company, and there were so many great fabrics to choose from. A local home store was running a sale on everything for the month, and we decided to pull the trigger on this beautiful sofa:

Originally, we were planning on an ivory sofa, but with the new color scheme, we decided on a dark gray. The fabric above is not the fabric we selected and is darker than ours will be, but you get the idea.

I recently came across some of Houston designer, Laura Umansky's work, and I had to check out her website. She really does great work, and she's a fellow Longhorn; even better :) She's an international designer with both commercial and residential projects under her belt, and I didn't want to keep all this eye candy to myself.

Family Room Progress

It's been a while since I have updated you on the progress of the family room, and we still have not made a lot of progress, but I am starting to get an idea of how I want the space to look and come together and possible color schemes.

As of now, I am thinking navy, pink, and gray. I love this fabric by Caitlin Wilson, Navy Fleur Chinoise :

The pink is lighter than what I would prefer so I don't know if this will work, but I do really like the Navy Deco Pillow:

This David Hicks La Fiorentina fabric is more of the pink tone that I was thinking, and I love it. It is magenta and wine:

I have been admiring this Global Views Arabesque rug for a while, and I think it could work in the space really well:

We have also narrowed down our sofa choices, and the Hickory Chair Halden is currently the front runner:

But in the ivory color of the Halden Chair shown below:

Ideally, I would love to incorporate Kelly Wearstler's Imperial Trellis in either navy or gray, but I may have to save it for another room:

What do you think of the direction so far? You never know, things may actually turn out completely different.

Coffee Table vs Ottoman

I came across this Horchow ottoman and loved it instantly. I am a big fan of tufting, and I liked how this ottoman had tufting all around it and not just on top:

After seeing the Horchow ottoman, we were pretty set on using it as our coffee table and adding a tray to hold the remote controls, drinks, etc. It would also provide more seating if necessary, and it's a great place to prop feet on (although I don't know how I feel about dirty feet on this ivory ottoman).

The more we worked on the overall layout for the family room, I started to worry that the ottoman would be to heavy for the room and take up too much visual space. Actual coffee tables usually have open bases, and you there are so many beautiful tables that come with clear glass or reflective surfaces like metal and mirrors, which would help the room feel more open and larger. We've gone back and forth, but I think we've decided to go with an actual coffee table.
