As I mentioned here, the family room is decorated in silver, gold, and white. We recently had our family room and kitchen painted a very soft gray, and our kitchen is all white; so I wanted to carry the neutrals into the Christmas decor.
I first draped a strand of garland over the mantel and wrapped a strand of mirrored garland from West Elm throughout it. Then I layered various objects on top. (Please excuse the oh so chic ceiling fan)
I wanted varying heights of items. I started with the beaded reindeer from Homegoods and worked around it. I added a mercury glass candle holder from Target (last year) and placed a glittery gold ornament on top. Then I added the white and silver glittered present from Jo-Ann Fabric.
I stuck a few ornaments into the garland to add a little extra sparkle. Our white velvet Mongolian stockings are hung by glittery Christmas tree stocking holders from Hobby Lobby (last year). I absolutely love our new stockings from West Elm. They add just the right about of texture and lushness to the decor.
Centered on the mantel is a sparkly, silver "Merry Christmas" sign. The phrase "Merry Christmas" is very important in our home; we're not big on the "Happy Holidays" phrase around here ;) I also added these mercury glass votive holders from Target in front of the sign.
On the other end of the mantel I grouped three sparkly (shocker) Christmas trees at varying heights. I purchased the gold ones at A Christmas Affair this year, and the silver is one I purchased at Target last year. You also get a tiny sneak peak of our family room Christmas tree, which I will show on Thursday so make sure you check back!
I felt like the mantel was missing something, so I added a few pieces of real clippings to the garland.
