We have wanted to redecorate the family room for a while but decided it was best to wait until we finished the kitchen makeover (I will share this soon). We made rushed decisions in picking out our current furniture and color scheme. This particular room gives me so much trouble when it comes to deciding on a color scheme or design. I did not have any set idea or plan when we first bought the house, and I have not been able to come up with a new idea or plan. Until now! Usually I find something right away that inspires the entire space or room (a color, pillow, rug, etc), but it has not been that easy with this room.
I was browsing West Elm the other day and came across this throw blanket, and instantly knew that I wanted to find a place for it. The color is great too - one that both Jett and I will like. Finding colors that appeal to both a female and male can be challenging. Especially when the male only likes blue and an occasional yellow :) We already have a yellow/gold color in our powder room that is right off the family room so I really didn't want to use yellow in the family room. This throw is more of a yellow/green citrine.
Although I do like the color blue in general, I think turquoise being the Pantone color in 2010 ruined me of decorating with lighter, brighter blues for a while. I have always liked peacock blue or teal and have wanted to incorporate teal into our decor for a while. So... you can imagine why this pillow caught my eye at West Elm. The online picture does not do it justice; the colors are much more vibrant and rich in person, but you get the idea. A pillow with both teal, the color of the throw, and light gray to tie in with our kitchen (which is open to the family room)!
